Sad day for the trip...

There's been a fairly major set back in our plans.  We were only able to obtain one ticket for the Doctor Who Screening Event... so we're on the lookout for an extra ticket.  If any readers know of any tickets going for a reasonable rate, please don't hesitate to let me know.
On that note.
For SHAME ticket scalpers.
There are already tickets on sale for $100+ on the internet.  People are unbelievable.  Truly.

My faith in BBC and the people in charge of Doctor Who events is seriously shaken.  I was one of the many people who were ready and waiting at their computer for the tickets to become available.  Once noon struck, Eventbrite.com had no links to the event and nothing coming up in the search engine either.  It was a major fail by both Eventbrite.com and BBC.  I will never support Eventbrite.com, as their website is not prepared for that kind of traffic or event.  BBC didn't even post a link to the actual event until 12:07 pm ET, six and a half minutes after the tickets had already sold out.

As for Eventbrite.com, they said that each buyer was able to purchase a maximum of 2 tickets, yet it wouldn't let Josh get more than one.  So now we're stuck with only one of us going.  So way to drop the ball there, too, as if your failures for the day hadn't amounted already.
Just in case you were curious on my mood.

They Finally Announced It!!!
Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Steve Moffat will be in New York City August 14, 2014 at 7:30pm EST.  And who else to host something so nerdy in NY but Chris Hardwick, thenerdist.
I'm going to get plenty of photos, and am even hopeful for one with the T.A.R.D.I.S.

Well, they still have to announce the venue it will be held at, but I'm happy now that I've got some more concrete ideas of the whole shindig.
Now the trick is to log in at noon on Monday and get those tickets before they all beat me to it.

Even the fact that it's only $12 for the event, it kind of blows my mind.

All of the places...

There are so many places to go in New York, but I've narrowed it down to these places to go.  I'm sure we'll end up many more places still.

A Week away from leaving Flint...

It's a week away from the trip I've been planning since last year.  The destination is New York City, again.  I can't help but go back to the city every year because there are so many great things to do. My best friend and companion Josh is going with me this this.  We are set to leave Tuesday night at 9:15 pm from Detroit, MI via Greyhound bus and arrive in the city at 11:30 am the next day.  Unfortunately, we will be dropped off at the infamous Port Authority.  Having recently been on the news for it's awful conditions and thievery, we are not excited about that portion of the trip.  However, we are staying in a hotel right across from Central Park, two blocks away from Studio 54  where we will be able to see Studio 54 from the hotel window(!!!), where Cabaret is showing.

My primary motivation in going on this trip is to see the wonderful and amazing Alan Cumming perform as emcee in Cabaret in the Broadway revival.  The first time I saw Alan, he was on Rosie O'Donnell's show performing Willkommen to promote the show in 1999 and my love for him was solidified in that performance.  I traveled to NY last summer to take part in his one-man production of Macbeth, and it was amazing.  I even got to meet him after the show for an autograph.  What an amazing experience.  I think I might sing to him this year, "Yer fuckin beautiful", lyrics to his own song.
Shows I plan to see while I'm there:

  • Cabaret
  • Bullets Over Broadway
  • Hedwig and the Angry Inch (hopefully)
  • Book of Mormon

There are tons of museums to visit in the city, and we plan to visit:
The American Museum of Natural History
The Museum of New York City

The Rubin Museum
The Museum of Modern Art
The Guggenheim

We're even scheduled to go to a taping to America's Got Talent.  I tried to get tickets to see the Daily Show or Colbert Report or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, but these were what I was able to get.  Luckily, Josh is a closet-fan of the show, so it's not completely in vein.

And even more important, I have scheduled a tour with Columbia's Teacher's College for graduate school.  I hope to meet with some of the professors and get better acquainted with their work in hopes to get involved.

Doctor Who is scheduled to make an appearance in New York somewhere on August 14th, yet it's the 6th and there is no further information to buy tickets or anything.  Peter Capaldi, Steve Moffatt, and Jenna Coleman are all supposed to be there, where ever it ends up being held at.

From Cabaret in 1999.  Alan did such a fantastic job as emcee, they revived it almost 15 years later.

Zach Braff has been somewhat of an idol for me since I watched Garden State.  I hope to see his new movie Wish I Was Here, in addition to his Broadway debut in Bullets Over Broadway while we're in the city.
